Networking Corner
BOOK BOX
The Book Box is a portable library for members and guests to donate and/or exchange English books and magazines at our monthly meetings. Started by Janet Bryant in 1998, the Book Box has become a popular tradition at Network evenings.
FACETS
FACETS is a monthly magazine for English speakers in the Freiburg area that provides helpful information for those who have recently moved to the area. It also features a column by food writer Janet Bryant on local culinary traditions as well as Kit’s Wit, a humorous look at the cultural differences encountered along the road to integration. Copies of FACETS are available at our monthly meetings.
RESOURCE DIRECTORY
The idea of compiling a resource guide created by Network members and guests grew as a natural extension of our monthly meetings. The recommendations in this first edition combine practical information with personal tips about living in Freiburg and the region. The Coordinating Team is happy to be able to offer this new perk with membership.
WOMEN’S DAY 2008
On Saturday March 8th, the Network joined other women’s groups on Freiburg’s Rathausplatz to celebrate International Women’s Day. Freiburg’s women’s representative, Ursula Knopfle, was delighted that the Network wanted to join in the activities, as she has good memories of our founder Susan Padmann-Reich who died 9 years ago. We had a small table next to the Weibsbilder stand and spent the day chatting to all sorts of women and a (very) few men. They were interested to hear that there is a group like ours, but some were put off by the fact that they would have to actually SPEAK English if they came to a meeting. However, a few people were really interested in the group and we may be seeing them at a meeting soon.
